Fake as a descriptor really isn't accurate. The replica watch is a real watch; it allows the user to tell the time. Granted not all of the functions of the original may work on the counterfeit model (sub dials may not work, hands may be missing, etc.) but in general it meets the criteria of a watch.

Homage watches fall into a different category. They are not labeled with the original watches' logos and markings. They are marked clearly with the new manufacturer's markings yet may emulate the appearance or function of the original watch. RXW's Marina is an example of a homage watch. Choosing a timepiece that accomplishes the same function using a more complicated older mechanical technology, a premium quartz technology that is marginally more precise, in a casing with highly refined detailing or of precious metal, or bearing the design hallmarks of a famous maker are all values that exist only to bring personal and intellectual satisfaction and enjoyment.
